In 2007, history was made.. RAW took out the crew battles and the 2k in prize money. Tas took out the 1 on 1's and won himself a trip to South Africa to hang out at BC 1. Cole took looking fresh to the next level.. Ducky, Milky, Kid David and Beast all made their way down, ciphers, battled, ran FREE workshops, and showed everyone what's up.. But that doesn't even hold a flame to what's going down in 2008!!!Hypnotic Capture Entertainment and REDBULL BC1 are proud to present:

Wassup peoples, one of the things that's been a little disappointing lately is the lack of events or social gatherings where B-boys and B-girls can just get together and jam. I mean, most people KINDA do it at training, but its just not the same thing. A few people always ask: "Hey Lama whens the next event?" and in the back of my mind I'm like, I don't have a budget to get guys to a jam and give them prize money... But then again, since when did events need to always be about tournaments with one winner? Why not an event with multiple battles, something like what the Hybrid Formz hold at Bankstown once a month which gives you a chance to ease into freestyling and battles... but also tie in the other elements of Hiphop which as an organiser I think are very important for our culture. I think their approach of mixing experienced bboys/girls with not so experienced bboys/girls allows for a good environment for EVERYONE TO GROW, and I think we need more than the next competition to encourage our dance styles to evolve. Its like local footy matches and the little leagues they have and how that evolves into the big matches and eventually the Grand Finals. Think of it as Breaking Cyphers that lead to Competitions. So we're trying to create an HIPHOP environment where you can take workshops of MC'ing, DJ'ing and B-boying for the first hour of the day, which leads onto a 3 hour cypher of all the styles, basically creating the vibe of a Hiphop Party. This format may change, but the vibe is that, the DJ plays a variety of tunes in 30 min blocks: 90's Hiphop, Funk Breaks, G-funk, party funk, Electro, recent Hiphop, Disco breaks , Rock Breaks etc whilst the DJ's, B-boys/girls, MC's and hopefully some Writers too cypher on the floor, on the decks, mic and in the Blackbooks. This evolves into, name picked outta the hat battles, for example, a pro(fessional) - am(ateur) situation -or- a 2 on 2's with one professional and one amateur, or even just simple call outs. If the B-boys and girls on the day feel down for a gold coin pot winner takes all kind of battle, then we can go with that too. In the meantime MC's would be freestyling over beats and rapping about topics and having battles, DJ's will be cutting vinyl with their scratching jams and practically doing what the B-boys/girls do but keeping it all together and keeping it HIPHOP. It sounds chaotic, but I think we can make it work. Simply put, there's a time and place for everything, so it won't be pandemonium for 3 hours straight. Everyone will get their say. And also I think B-boys and B-girls need a place to show their power and tricks, a place to show their new toprock steps, footwork and uprock and play with the notion of 'show and tell' with their Breaking. If not then its a free for all, anything goes, let's all get hyped circle... who knows it's really up to you and what we as a community create from these kind of events. Plus every month you get free food. On the menu this month is Filipino Food. Fried Lumpia (Spring Rolls) Vegetarian or Meat with Fried Rice. Next month might be Greek, Ethopian, Tongan, Irish, even Martian... but most likely it'd be Filipino, cos Mama's a great chef :) We aim to do this on every third Saturday, once a month. Cultural Infusion will create a truly unforgettable Hip Hop experience
in Moonee Valley next weekend, hosted by Australian Bboy Champion,
Lamaroc. Cultural Infusion is delighted to provide this platform for
local youth to try out the latest techniques in free Hip Hop
interactive workshops, being held at Niddrie Hub on Saturday 28 June from 1-5pm.
‘How Do You Want It?' Hip Hop Forum is an initiative by Cultural
Infusion and Moonee Valley City Council targeting youth in the City of
Moonee Valley and surrounding areas. The aim is to provide
basic but essential mentorship of “how to do it and how it's done” and
any real outcome and benefit to the youth MUST come from the rites of
passage involving getting them out there and ‘just doing it.' “We want
the kids to walk away from this session with something they can work on
in their own time, so that when the opportunity comes for them to get
up and dance elsewhere, they can do so with confidence… in essence we
want them to learn how to freestyle using proper vocabulary from these
arts,” says Anthony Lawang (aka Lamaroc). HDYWI? is a rare
opportunity for youth to engage with Professional Hip Hop artists and
practitioners in an informal environment, where their knowledge of the
art can be passed on with the aim of starting the journey for the next
Hip Hop generation, with the cream of the crop assembled including: - Kaos aka Subliminal from the Kaos Fam / Royal Fam / Grrilla Step posse specialising in the art of Krumping.
- Lamaroc
aka Boogalama aka Luv'n Lama from the Fresh Sox / Nomadic Funk / Zulu
Kingz / Cyphersapiens specialising in the art of B-boying (Breakdance)
and 70's Funkstyle: Popping (Boogaloo Style)
- Jay Jamero,
Daisuke Fujino & Deloy de Jesus from Jigsaw Sneakers /
Cyphersapiens specialising in Freestyle Hiphop Dance and 70's &
80's Funkstyle dances: Locking & New York House
- MC Aim hailing from Glenroy specialising in the art of Beatboxing and Emceeing (Rapping)
- and
special guest from Switzerland, DJ C.T.B specialising in the art of
DJ'ing Old School Classics, spinning tunes throughout the day and
teaching basic vinyl ‘Scratching' techniques.
The aim is to
establish a ‘professional artist-to-student exchange', a way to boost
self-esteem, courage and confidence, which is an example of a ‘real'
mentoring process from professional artists and an outcome drawn from
‘true grace under pressure' situation. The purpose of the event
is to gauge the interest of the Moonee Valley youth community, with the
mantra of ‘for the youth by the youth'. Using the artists ‘street
rep(utation)' as a marketing tool, the aim is to encourage new youth to
join and be part of the greater Victorian Hip Hop and Streetdance
community. As Notorious B.I.G put it: ‘…if you don't know, now you
know.' Following this initial session, the next step is to then begin
workshopping in these styles. For video footage of Lamaroc and other
Hip Hop artists, please go to: http://www.myspace.com/hiphopinstructors
